Wheel barrow race: Joe n Amailee vs. Kori n Granite

climbing near Palmer by Weiner Lake

While my truck was getting fixed in Girdwood, jo and I hitch hiked to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, where I did my internship in 2006.

Bird Ridge, Kenai Peninsula

un-named peak next to suicide peak

Story: jo, kona, granite, and me were going to backpack into this lake and then go up suicide peak the next day. We got kind of a late start, lost the trail in a snow field, and so we decided to just start heading up the peak we were closest to. Due to the lateness of our departure we were forced to make camp on a small shelf on the mountain side. The flattest spot we found was still steep enough that if you moved to carelessly on your sleeping pad, you would start to slide down the mountain. Our perch was small enough that looking at your feet, all you saw was the kenai peninsula. The only thing keeping me from sliding off was a small clump of tundra under my right butt cheek, that Granite kept trying to push me off of. Half way thorough the sleepless night it started to snow and blow, so we staked the tent fly over us, and that worked pretty well. Finally the sky began to brighten and the warm sun peeked over the ridge line. We scrambled up the rest of the way to the peek that we named disillusion.
